Captain Nancy

Professional Captain Nancy Barba is a life-long sailor and architect. Growing up on the water in Annapolis, Nancy has been sailing all her life. Her love of the sea and environment comes through in her depth of knowledge of history and the region. She has lived and sailed in Maine for over 40 years. Safety is foremost onboard Curlew, which is a documented vessel. Every cruise includes a licensed captain and a deckhand.

Nancy L.H. Barba is an author, architect, and historic preservationist. Her passions include sailing, photography, and her family.

Nancy Barba started her own architectural firm in 1986 and has grown to be one of the most highly regarded Preservation Architects in Maine. For the past 25 years, she has co-led an architectural firm with her architect wife. Their work is imbued by a passion for affecting social change. Their practice is well-known for its work on noteworthy buildings in Northern New England and especially those that explore the nexus of sustainability and historic preservation. They have worked on the restorations of such landmark projects as the Harriet Beecher Stowe House in Brunswick, Rockefeller Hall in Acadia National Park, and the Winslow Homer Studio at Prouts’ Neck.
